Gnomon

In the center of one of the business complexes in Costa Mesa, CA. I found this unique structure.  A gnomon is the part of a sundial that casts the shadow.  This Gnomon is over 20 feet tall and has water cascading over the rocks.  The background wall is lit by several high-power mercury vapor lights that are covered by blue and cyan filters.

I based the exposure on the stone face on the left side of the object.  I placed this value on Zone V, the brightest section of the wall fell on Zone VII and the dark angled face fell on Zone III and below.  Given the short exposure scale of the color transparency film, this exposure gave the desired results.
