On the Side Track

This image is included not because I consider it an especially good image, but because it very accurately (at least for me) captures the mood and feeling of that place in time.

During college, my wife-to-be and a couple of friends (one from Paris) took a road trip along the West Coast from L.A. to Vancouver, B.C..  We took many side roads along the way.  One evening, while looking for the campground, we crossed this track just in time.  Just as the train crossed the road, the engineer decided to stop right there.  We found the campground nearby, but the train stayed in that position and blocked the road for over an hour.
